    Default Critique my setup

I changed around my rod holder setup so I can try a little slow trolling. Feel free to offer any suggestions. The fishing rig is a 1/O Eagle claw hook tied in a loop knot 2 ft about a 1/4 oz sinker. I went w/ that weight because my rod tips are pretty flimsy on these rods (like you may be able to tell by the pics). Oh...and pardon the pics....they're from my phone.

I wouldn't worry about the rod tips bending a little, the main thing to keep in mind is to go slow enough to keep the lines as vertical as possible. You might even have to go with a 1/2oz weight. Take some with you just in case.
The rod set up looks nice good luck.

I started doing a lot of the slow trolling this spring and i had to go to the 1/2 to get it to work right. You might try another hook about a foot from the one on there now. I need as many baits in there as I can get.

You're right about that. My boat is a 1985 and where they put the hole for the seat pole is right in front of the front livewell, so I can't sit in a regular seat and comfortably operate the trolling motor. I need to extend my front deck by about a foot, but I figure it won't matter if I can talk Mrs ThrillSeeker into getting that Minnkota w/ autopilot. :D

Oh...I went out today for 2 hrs. I was fishing 16 ft deep in 25 ft of water. I need a heavier sinker to keep my lines vertical. I caught two fat yellow bass, but no crappie. Water temp was 71 degrees.

I have 1/2 oz weights on a snap swival and carry 3/4 oz with me. If the wind is up or they are generating at the dam I will switch to a 3/4 oz. The snap makes it easy to switch out the weights.
Also I use #2 hooks not#1's. Make sure they are thin wire ones so you can pull them out of the brush and then bend the hook back with a pair of needle nose. Use either 8 or 10 pound test.
