Default "Winds out of the East, the fish bite the least!"

OK, this is an old adage from the Louisiana Crappie fishermen.

    I've never investigated it.
How do you guys find it? Is it true?
If it is, what's the reason for it being true?
I just wish I could be better at fishing. Or maybe luckier!:D

I've found it to be somewhat true. It usually means a front has passed through leaving high pressure conditions and inactive fish. You can catch 'em but you are going to have to work a lot harder. A south or west wind usually is best.

Found it to be very true. In fact I don't even go out anymore with an east wind. I first heard that from my grandfather, 50 years ago. wind from the east fishing is the least, wind from the west fishing is best.

I do like a south wind just as well, and a little wind better than none at all.
Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it!

TacoBenders post about the winds got me to thinking about this.
As I recall, nearly every time I went fishing in the Dead Sea, the wind was out of the east. Not much wind, but it kept moving my boat west.
I wondered if that was the key to not catching any Crappie or Catfish.
I guess I'll watch the weather next time. But I'll go fishing anyway.
I just wish I could be better at fishing. Or maybe luckier!:D

I have found the same thing. Some say "Fish anyway", which is OK if you can fish whenever you want or if there is an east wind on the only day you can go BUT, if you have a choice, I choose the one with a south or west wind.

    Saying in Kentucky

Wind from the North-Don't go forth
Wind from the East-Fish bite the least
Wind from the South-Gotta throw it their mouth
Wind from the West-Fishing is the Best

Of course-TacoBender has already proven the North wind adage wrong!

Wink It's a weather related "old saying" ...

but, I've still caught fish regardless of which way the wind was blowing :D ..... good thing too, since the wind almost always seems to start blowing me around, no matter where I try to fish :p .... and it almost always seems to want to blow me right into where I want to fish, or I have to point the boat into the wind (boat control/positioning) and fish towards the back of the boat .... LOL !!

Fish may bite "the least", in an East wind ... but, they still bite ... that's all a man can ask for

Bill Dance said the same thing in one of his "ask Bill" episodes. I've found it to be pretty accurate as well. Like CP said, though, the fish are still there and they will bite. The wind direction alone won't prevent me from fishing.
