Default HB=Humminbird asks for your help, SLOW GPS

    Hi folks,
On 8/28/08 HB re: Mr. Tom Vickers(post 16821) agreed to look into improving the GPS system on HB products. Now another moderator (p16920) has asked for help/info on GPS use, and only a couple of good folks have replied.--- PLEASE, I am not trying to start, a beeching session, but LET’S HELP HUMMINBIRD HELP US.
Go to the Unofficial sideimaging site & sign in, it’s very easy.
sideimaging : UnOfficial Humminbird Side Imaging Group
Read entire post 16920 Note: sentence “Some of the info that I would like to get from the 4-5 guys that posted repeatedly last week about this issue or from any others that haven’t posted yet is:”
And just answer the question best you can, that’s all- that simple……Be nice

Thanks to a few great people on Crappie.com & other sites we got the door open, but we can’t go it alone. You never know when a person could fall overboard & your’re going to need that MOB Button with a good working GPS.
My 997 GPS updates very slow, boat symbol doesn’t follow arrow, it corrects, & then over corrects. U think I was following a water snake.

    Thanks Jaxsprat

I went over there and signed up, posted a reply, and it said it "went"
but I'll be durned if I can find out where
That is a strange type of message board (to me)

It was news, and interesting to me, to see them say that a combo unit is at a
disadvantage to a handheld or standalone chartplotter... I thinks I would still have
a SI unit on my boat, but would have went a different direction than what I did for
the gps, if I had it to do over.

Default I just posted there too.......

    Now, Apples and apples comparison?

HB makes claims (their post) that their unit is real busy doing all this fancy stuff. It is. I agree. This takes "real time". HHB's just ain't got enough time to keep the GPS updated.

Now, my old Garmin Map76 and 276c only have 1 processor. They do fine job and don't do as much as the HB this is true.

    BUT

HB advertises (as a selling point) that it's units have dual microprocessors plus a graphics coprocessor. With all this jive, HB should be faster than a speeding bullet compared to the Garmins.

    BOO..............

    Fix it I say.

Audited before it is posted. Sometimes they don't make it. I know.

My post was heavily edited on the HB unofficial forum. Man o man. Some forum. Don't want to hear technical complaints or any honest facts about their products.

Yeah, my post is up there today. I tell you what though, I'm only gonna
listen and wait for so long before I "fix" it myself with a standalone chartplotter
And it'll probably be something along the lines of a Garmin or Furuno,
maybe Raymarine??? Can tell you which it WON'T be.

Bet you didn't know to set the update down to 1' instead of default 16'
did ya? Yah right. I pushes buttons on stuff with more goings on than
ff/gps all day at work, and been playin with gps on boat for about 10 years
now - not gonna bs me but so long.

That is plumb dumb. Why do you need to set the track interval to change the GPS screen refresh. Mine is set on 1 second and trackpoint 20 feet and Arrow is hidden.. Tried it. Boo........

They deleted the part I posted about the dual microprocessors and graphic coprocessors they advertise (and other stuff). My Garmin has only one processor and works fine.....

Don't have to change the track interval to get details.

Not to be cruel, but why didn't Joby Humminbird suggest these so called settings to improve refresh rates? I can't recall any help from him about changing settings for refresh.

As far as I am concerned, HB should refresh the screen every second when pings from heaven arrive. This should be a no brainer.

Haven't got me a SI yet but plan too. I like using a Garmin Etrex handheld for locating my tops. The next one I buy will definately have an "electronic compass".
