    Default See ya later Wal-Mart

I'm putting Walmart on notice. As far as I'm concerned, you can close the already pathetic fishing and hunting section in my local store. Last Wednesday the Bass Pro Shops had their soft opening and they are only about 2 minuted further down the road from Wally. I don't mind paying a little more to get what I'm looking for in one trip. The grand opening is the 28th but I'm told if something I've bought goes on sale between now and then, they will match the price. Now I don't have to order online from them because the online part sucks in my opinion.

greenchicken.....were you at the High Point CC? You didn't talk with the manager did you? He is a black guy name Otis and he will bend over backwards to make it work. They tried that trick on me with a computer monitor...I demanded to speak to the manager..that is how I met him. He told one of the assistant managers to find me the monitor. When she couldn't find one..he sold me a larger, same make monitor at the same price of the smaller one. My point, if Otis gets involved, you may end up with something a little better at the same price.

Circuit City, Best Buy, Lowes, Home Depot.......it goes on and on.
Our local WalMart appears on the verge of selling only bare bones fishing tackle. It used to be very well stocked.
I get high blood pressure just thinking about going into a Lowes. With that said......Your love affair with Bass Pro might be short lived.
I was outfitting my new boat last summer and decided to just drive the 30 miles to BPS, because they'd have everything I needed. I'd had a live well made at a metal shop, (aluminum) and I needed the through hull fittings, pumps, hose etc. and some marine carpet. I was directed to the guy in "Boating Accessories " or somesuch. Found him at his desk.
Me: I need some pumps and hoses etc. to outfit a livewell.
    Him: A livewell?
Me: Uh, yeah........ You know a tank like thing you put your fish.......
Him: Oh! Ok, all the tank accessories are on the second aisle over.
    Went two aisles over.......gas tanks....sheesh
I finally found the bilge pumps etc on my own, but the selection was about the same as what WalMart carries. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Ordered them online.
Went back and asked him where the carpet was.
Him: Carpet? (sense a trend here?)
    Me: Yeah, boat carpet.
Him: Oh, that's back with the boats.
    Me: Ok, thanks.
Boat dept. guy: May I help you?
Me: Yes, I need some marine carpet.
    Him: For?
    Me: To carpet my boat.
Him: What kind of boat is it?
Me: (gettin kinda steamed) A carpetless boat!!!
Him: Oh we just sell boat carpet kits.
    Me: Ok....
Bought the carpet at Lowes. (which I have several war stories from)
Do gooder since April 26, 2009!

I went the entire year of 2007 and did not spend 1 penny in a Walmart, even with 10 grandkids and all the presents we needed to buy. I do not think much of them, years back they were about USA made products and I did not mind going into 1, now they are about shutting down USA manufacturers and shipping in foreign made junk. I feel they could be just as big with buying American made merchandise and selling in their quantities prices could still be lower. So far this year I might have spent 200 dollars in a Wallyworld but they will never see much of my money.
