Fisherman Catches Record-Setting Catfish with Barbie Doll Rod

ILKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) -- When Ken hears about Barbie's latest catch, he'll probably be jealous.

A Wilkes County man used his granddaughter's hot pink Barbie Doll rod and reel to catch the largest catfish ever recorded in North Carolina. The 32-inch channel catfish measured 2 inches longer than the pole itself and weighed 21 pounds, 1 ounce.

That guy should keep that rod, it seems to be the only one out of millions produced in the "Cartoon/Kiddie" line that actually works. All the ones I ever purchased for my kids fell apart within 30 minutes. But I still liked the "Plankton" practice plug. Made for a great Cat toy.

NC Fishing Records lists : Channel Catfish - 40 lbs 8 oz - Fontana Reservoir - P.P. Paine - 4/15/1971

Now, it may have been the largest catfish "HE" ever caught ... or even the largest catfish ever caught on a Barbie rod, in NC :p But, it's a long way from the largest catfish caught in NC
