    Default "You're Welcome"

This phrase is hardly used anymore. I can't understand why most people won't even say this. All I hear is when someone says "Thank You" the person responds by saying "Thank You" back to them instead of saying "You're Welcome". If you think I am wrong pay attention when you are watching the news, or an interview on a sports channel, or just in line at a grocery store. I am starting to think a lot of people don't even know that when someone says "Thank You" to you the correct response should be "You're Welcome".

Just a little pet peave of mine. Thank You! for listening.

you're absolutley right Jim. You don't here it much these days. I hear "sure" or "ok" or "yep" and as you mentioned "thank you" in response to Thank you. I beleive it's a lack of "fetchun" :D or proper upbringun.

Give you a pet peeve of mine.

Was brought up to hold the door open for women, regardless of age.

Now days, they dont even thank you for holding the door open.

So here is what I do when they dont thank me, and walk pass me......

You should see the surprise look, and many times a dirty look I get.
Only once did a women tell me she was sorry, that she was pre-occoupied, and was not paying attention.

Am on a one man mission to bring back the good old days.

    Bob #1,

Unfortunately it appears that type of response of women in general, is having a sad effect on the willingness of men to continue utilizing the manners that were taught during simple basic home training. I also hold to my upbringing, and often utilize the "You are welcome", when appropriate.

Chivalry is not dead, but unfortunately is unappreciated by some. A true southern lady will pause a moment if a gentleman is at a door, knowing that the door will gladly be held or opened for her. A "thank you" usually follows, with the traditional "you're welcome Ma'am". Some even take offense at the use of the phrase "ma'am". Don't know what this world is coming to, but my grandson at the age of four is being taught to hold the door. I too, am on a mission.
