Default Boat salesman full of it......

For lack of something better to do, Honey and I went touring around and visited a few boat dealers. I asked salesmen (at 3 different dealerships) how things were going. To hear them tell it, it the best year ever in the boat business.

Strange thing, me and Honey were the only customers. Hmmmm.

I asked if they were having or were anticipating any rebates. Nothing.
I guess the boat sales business is really booming. No one even offered me a business card. Gee, I guess my money want spend.

I am always looking for deals.

Talking Boat Salesmen Are 1 Step Down From A Car Saleman!

I don't believe they're sell'n many boat! I know the big boat's ain't sell'n. If you go to Kentucky Dam Marina and just float around the slips it seems like every other boat has a "For Sale" sign on it. I mean some nice used boats well worth the money too. I saw some good deals. My son-in-law has a real nice cruser (like new) he's been try'n to sell cheep for a year. No takers. Gas is just too high and the economy too iffy for people to take the plunge.

I heard on the news that many boat manufactures are laying off or closing. People are cutting down on gas usage. My freind has a 24' boat in Florida. It use to cost us $65-70 to go out 22-25 miles for grouper. It now is $125-140. You can buy a lot of grouper for that. We are concentrating on inshore locations and using a smaller boat to fish freshwater for crappie. Fishing small lakes closer to home and using the trolling motor more often.

I switched to crappie fishing last year and cut my boat travels by 75%.

Just like RV Sales. Camping World is advertising Diesel Motor Homes up to 50% off.

    Default Marine Industry

I WAS INVOLVED IN THE MARINE INDUSTRY FOR 35 YEARS.

MARINE SALES ARE DOWN 25 TO 30% OVER LAST YEAR. BRUNSWICK HAS CLOSED SEA PRO OPERATIONS. ALMOST ALL MANUFACTURERS HAVE REDUCED OPERATIONS.

THE RECENT PURCHASE OF MY TRITON TA 196 WAS WAS A BAD BUYING EXPERIENCE. THE MARINE INDUSTRY HAS A LONG WAY TO GO IN THE CSI DEPARTMENT.

I always wondered why salesman depend on you for their livelyhood, they are so quick to be arogant and smart mouth and dont care if you are there or not, seems like they would be begging to make every sale for money they could, not all salesman but most, in the car and boat business especially. just my 2 cents

I have talked to a couple of boat dealers out on the lake and they were trying to drum up any business possible. I knew one of the guys and after his buddy left, he told me that the boat sales were down about 70% from last year. He then mentioned that last year was down from the year before. I wonder when these boat manufactures and dealers are going to figure out that boats that cost $50000 plus are out of most peoples price range. I would love to have a new boat, but for that much money, I would be scared to death to get it into the trees.
