    Question Spawn and cold water

I'm relatively new to fishing for crappies and have a question. Here in Western New york, the weather has been unusually cold for the last three weeks, after a week or so of unseasonal warm weather. With the first warm spell water in nearby lakes was just about to 50 deg F when the temps took a dive and now they are in the upper 40's. Never got warmer due to the cold spell. I don't know of anyone who has really found the crappies "turned on" yet. The run is usually just about over by now, but doesn't seem to have begun. My question: Will they spawn in low temp waters or wait till the waters approach the upper 50's?

Here in NC the weather has also been a little shifty. I believe the water temp. has to remain above 60 for a large spawn to occur. All fish do not spawn at the same time under optimum conditions. We have creeks where the water temp is now 67 and others where the temp is 59 in the morning and just 62 in the afternoon. Crappie are still spawning in those creeks.

    check the following:
