Default Bamboo condos on Depth finder?

    Hey guys,

I put out some bamboo condos a while back and have caught fish in that area since, but I cannot locate my condos with the depth finder. Does anyone else have this problem?

It may be time for a more up-to-date depth finder.

Also, since the bamboo condos are cumbersome to transport, I think I am going to make up pvc condos. When I get the the drop location I will slide the bamboo down into the pvc, shoot some screws through it, and bombs away! This way, the pvc will be there after the bamboo has rotted away.

    Let me know your thoughts.
    LET IT RIP!

I've got three of mine that I've never seen again, and I have a gps. I don't know if they've fallen over or drifted more than I thought. Could be I took longer to drop them after I hit the way point button. Also I've found they are easier to find with my lowrance x-25 on the bow than they are with the 337, it's because the x-25 has a 20 degree transducer and the 337 has a 12 degree. But they look TOTALLY different on the two units. The x-25 looks just like the picture in the articles section but the 337 shows them like a huge Christmas tree( like an upside down plumb bob).

I think the PVC idea might just be a great one... seems to me it would be a lot easier to get more cane per bucket... wouldn't have to contend with them falling over etc. I'll be interested to read how others feel about that... After a certain point I'm not sure how important density is in the condo.

Just a thought on bamboo vs. pvc in regards to electronics.
PVC has been reported to be "invisible" to most depth finders by some on this board.
If you are having problems picking up bamboo, you may never see PVC condos.

I can't say that I've actually seen one on a finder, but I've read that they will look like either a big clump of weeds or a big blob on the bottom

FalconSmitty on here fishes condos, and produces well, being able to re locate them isn't a problem either, as I've been out with him and done quite well.

How about lowering them down with an old rope so you know exactly where they drop. Then get over the spot and GPS it. Also you might take a pic of where the location is. I shoot pics with my digital camera in the winter when the lakes down about 2-5 feet and go back to the spots where the brush piles are and fish them during the spawn. Really helps your hit and miss percentage.

I tied a clear 20 oz drink bottle to the top of one, wondering if in time it would move, depending on what type of water you situate it in, they don't move, I've imagined the bass fishermen snagging on them and pulling them over though.....

I also have heard that pvc won't show up on your graph. Was told that if you switch you graph over to flasher mode you could see the pvc. I don't have any first hand knowledge of this but plan on checking it out one of these days.
Would be interested in other comments from the board as to the veracity of this info.

This was discussed in depth last year, but I can't seem to find the thread. Moose had a good copied description of how sonar echos act in pipe...........If anyone remembers the thread, it would be relevant here.
Moose - you remember that? Same thread had depth finder discussions in it - which ones picked up pipe, and which ones couldn't "see" it.
Thought it was the "Look what Killer built" thread, but it's not.
That's a good thread about condo construction as well.
