No, we use the roadrunner jig-heads from time to time with no problems.....

They will sometimes give the extra little bit of flash that is needed to trigger that strike.

I've used Roadrunners with great success ... both trolling and casting. Solid Chartreuse and solid Pink have been used to catch many good fish from lakes like Green River Lake, Herrington Lake, KY/Barkley Lakes, and Taylorsville Lake (in KY) - Watts Bar Lake (in TN) - and Weiss Lake (in ALA).
I don't really "slow" troll .... since the spinner doesn't spin unless you're pulling the bait at a certain speed. But, even if the spinner is only fluttering (and not actually spinning), it will still give off the flash and vibration ... which a plain jig does not. And, as GABoy said ... sometimes that's enough to trigger them.
Just be advised - fish, other than Crappie, really like them ... I've caught Channel & Flathead Catfish, Hybrid Stripers, White Bass, Yellow Bass, Freshwater Drum, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Ky Spotted Bass, Warmouth, and a host of other "panfish" on the Roadrunner. I even have a 12lb Tiger Muskie, mounted on my wall, that fell prey to a Roadrunner ........ luck2ya .......cp

I use 'em all the time. Trolling and casting. But, it's like CP said. Ain't no telling what u gonna catch.

I even use a bettle spin too; sometime when things get tough. I put one in my spread. The blade will spin at slower speeds than the roadrunner but I like them also.

Do you think road runners are better than beetle spins? Personally, I've never had any luck with the runners. At least with the beetle spins, a different bait is just a snap away.

What size of RR's seem to work best for Crappie?

Went out this morning in the gale force winds, I would have needed a 6# Roadrunner to keep it down below 10 feet.

for my money if i had to choose it would be bettle spins over roadrunners. but most of the time when i'm trolling i use curly tail grubs on my jigs anyway.

I mostly throw 1/16oz .... but have used 1/32oz. And I usually trim the marabou down about "half" (half the distance from the end of the marabou, as it comes in the package, to the hook bend). I find I get less Bluegill "nips" if the marabou is shortened (and even get some of the Bluegill, too :D ).
Most often I will use them to cast with ... especially around vertical structures with open water around them. Since they aren't weedless, I usually use them in situations where I can run them in 8ft of water or less - and where the cover is light. Otherwise, I'm prone to using a weedless jig - especially around wood or when shooting docks. ......luck2ya .....cp
