Remember the Neutron Bomb? It killed everyone around, but left the buildings standing. Newt is an intellectual, but he couldn't even keep the Republican Congress on the same path, let alone the whole country.

His best role is stimulating thought...

If people like him would have started a long time ago trying for alternative energy sources we could have had our dependency on oil almost non-existant by now. If Congress would just get the balls to say we have to try for new energy sources we could have new ideas in no time at all and it wouldn't take very long to see results. But we keep wasting money shooting the Shuttles up in space instead of taking that money and putting it in to new technology. Spending money on new refineries and drilling for more oil is just the same as throwing our money in the crapper. To lower the prices at the pumps now, Bush has to open the reserves up, and you will see results in no time at all at the pumps. This has been proven time after time.
