Default Fish Finder GPS Combo Or Seperate?

I have a Lowrance 102c fish finder and like it. I am using a Garmin portable gps now. I am guessing having a Lowrance color bigger screen gps that isn't portable, i would like better. I also have a Lowrance B&W on a Minn Kota motor up front.

I was looking at a 520c and notice it is a 5" screen. It will split screen but at 2 1/2 inches each watching gps/fish finder isn't that big when on split screen.

Do you like having your gps/fish finder together or do you like a sepertate fish finder and seperate gps? I just do not want to give $2,000 for a 10" Lowrance screen.

What would be a good onboard seperate gps? Should i go with Lowrance, Garmin or another brand.

I use the 102C along with the Garmin 276C (up front). I like this combo.

I ain't real crazy about my 797 gps/sonar/si. It is functional. I just use it for SI. My wife likes the blue and red fish ID's on the unit's screen.

Personal choices. None of my Lowrance or Humminbird units (over the years) have ever failed. I guess I am lucky.

    Default combo

I use a 510c and 5300c on the troller --I like the 2 units better than one ---bigger screens and if one would quit I would still have the other
Have a 997si on the console --still getting use to it --

I use the 522C and love having one unit with both functions. If it quits, I would keep fishing until it was fixed. I was fishing way before electronics but having the unit does make it easier at times.

I did have a Lowrance X97 on trolling motor and X97 on transom and was using a Garmin Map 76S as GPS mounted up on front of the boat.

I bought a Lowrance 522C igps and Navonics 2008 Hot Maps chip and put it on the trolling motor and continue to use the Garmin 76S to mark waypoints along with marking them on the 522C. It is my understanding that if I would ever need to reset the Lowrance I would be losing the waypoints on the Lowrance. I have the extra X97 in basement as a backup for either graph on my boat.

The Garmin is a backup for my waypoints. I use the Garmin to bring my waypoint into my computer into Easy GPS or FUGAWI maps.

Another handy thing about still using the handheld GPS using it while fishing with a friend using his Hummingbird sideview. After he has marked a waypoint on his side view he positions his boat over the waypoint until it shows up on his graph at which time I mark the waypoint in my Garmin hand held. At a later time when I get back on the water in my boat I find the waypoint using the Garmin handheld positioning my boat until the waypoingt shows on the Lowrance 522c graph at which time I punch in that waypoint on the 522c.

I just bought a 520c about a month ago. I really like it and they also have a mail-in rebate right now for a free Hot Spots map of your choice or one of the other types. That's a $99.00 map card for free. I've found that the 520c will do pretty much everything the high dollar machines will do, but at a much better price. My only mistake was putting it at the console, now I'm gonna have to buy another for the bow lol.
