    Default Trolling??

I just watched Jim Duckworth's films (well worth watching) and in the trolling one he says when you get a fish on to back the boat up a little. I didn't quite understand the reasoning but I assume its just to stop the forward motion of the boat so you don't tear the hook out of it mouth. Is this the main reason?

That must be what he's thinking but I never do that. In fact I don't even slow down. It's easier once they are skiing behind the boat just to reel them in instead off letting then fight the whole way to the frying pan.

Bill, I assume you are speaking of longline / flatline trolling.
I don't back up, because backing up causes the other jigs
hit the bottom, hang-ups, win blowing turns boat tieing up
lines. what a mess. This is my reason for not doing, I don't
know what his reason would be for backing-up.

I always stop my trolling motor and if need be turn around back to the fish, but I almost never keep pulling.

I looked at it again and he is trolling what looks like Bandits. One out each side of the boat. Using his main motor for trolling.

    Default Midwest crappie

On myoutdoortv.com has a good show on trolling crankbaits with four out each side. They bring them to the surface and ski em too.

I guess trolling bandits you could stop or backup to slow you down, because they will float to the top,but I never let up when I am trolling bandits or roadrunners, the fish will come to the top on there side and are easy to bring in,but I also troll with my tm not my gas motor,so my speed may be a little slower
