Call me old fashion, but my favorite is the Rooster Tail. I like the white, black or silver myself. The Current is not up now, but when it is I use a gold spinner on it as well. If not one of those, try a 3 inch curly tail grub on an 1/8 oz. jighead.

Crayfish imitations. Mainly jigs or tubes and small crank baits.

They love crayfish and years ago, when I fished for them, I did real well on a small crank bait crayfish, the depth depending on what structure that your fishing. They're fun to catch and not bad to eat. Later, Ship

I love using 4" powerworms and a 1/16th oz jig head for smallmouth, or just texas rigged with a 1/16th oz worm wieght and a 3/0 worm hook. Smallmouth for my money is the best fighting fish around, pound for pound of course

My favorite approach for river smallmouth is to get a good day's sleep. Put in at dusk and fish all night with no lights. We use big jitterbugs, big buzz baits, and, my all time favorite - a BPS 1/4 oz black safety pin spinner bait with a hammered colorado blade. We wade and work over all the seams in the current in the shoals. The big ones feed at night. It's a good way to catch a 3 lb. smallmouth. Generallly, you have the river to yourself, as the floaters are out on the gravel bars at night. We could usually slip right by them and wade the shoals and they wouldn't even know we were there. Fun.

I have been fishing the Gasconade for the last 35 years......my top three lures would be a chartuse/white buzzbait and or a spinner bait with gold blades, and a 5 inch chomper.

Another favorite would be a 6 inch rebel split back.
Nothing better than getting out on the water.
