I deliver to a taxidermist and he charges half when you drop off and the other half upon completion. I don't have clue on cost.
i was wondering if i need money upfront to pay taxidermist or do you pick up and pay. I want to get some pike and bass mounted but i need to know if i need round up big bucks upfront. How much do fish cost to get mounted. Any idea..
thanks to all

Use good judgment. If you know the person and find him/her to be honest and trustworthy, the I would skeptically say ok. Otherwise, back off.
I don't and want give anything (cash, etc.) in advance unless I know the person and know him/her to be reputable.
Trust me on this issue.

I get 50% up front and 50% on delivery. I'll work with a client on waiting for the 50% deposit but will not start work till it is paid. Fish guys are the only ones I have had payment trouble with. 50% deposit is norm for the industry. I would be leary of a taxidermist who doesn't require a deposit.

That's your right. My right and my contract with my customers say 50% up front or go somewhere else. I've NEVER had anyone bring work to my studio and balk at paying the deposit. My work load is over 1 year so I guess most don't mind my terms. The vast majority of my work is repeat or referral.

i would not pay up front because i have seen some awful mounts and if they mess up your fish.
most charge by the inch was $8.00 an inch not sure now.
I'll NEVER pay anything up front(Again)
As mrdux said, 50% up front is the industry standard. Good luck finding a good taxidermist to do any work on your mount without a deposit up front. Look at their work before committing. Ask for references.
