    Default Question Boat Hydraulics

When I hit under stumps here on Reelfoot Lake, sometimes it stalls the motor
[40 hp], of course I'm always facing forward and can't see if the motor is kicking up when I hit one.
I'm not going much more than idle speed. I'm scared it will bust my lower unit or break my prop [stainless].
I have it kicked up high to avoid hitting the stumps, but my boat squats low in the back with the lease of speed til on plane, which I would never do on Reelfoot.
Is the motor suppose to kick up when hitting a stump with the tilt hydraulics?
What can I do to protect the lower unit and prop?

Gary most motors will not kick up. but my buddy has a 90 on his and we have stalled it a lot of times. And no problems. He has been fishing the lake for 7 years.
Theres some motors you can fix where the motor will kick up. Or buy one of these.
If it were me. This is what I would have on my boat for that reason.
