Our springs are the usual up and down hot and cold windy and rainy type situation. Question is...once the crappie begin their spawn can it abruptly stop because of a cold front ?
yes, water temperature and conditions drive the train.
Agreed....some may not even spawn due to conditions...they will eventually use the eggs stored up to provide nourishment, I believe.....Originally Posted by Bruce Carp

I won't be at work........I'm feelin' crappie today!

I believ that any eggs left over in the famels body become re-absorbed by the fish
Life is what you make of it...
Some of the crappie I caught last weekend in deeper water over brush still had eggs, but it looked to me like they had passed the opportunity. The eggs looked like they were not single little round balls any longer. More of a solid looking mass like they didn't finish and what was left didn't look viable to me.
i read a artickle on that . they will lay some and go back to deeper water to rest and or the weather cools down . they will alwayes have some left and the body will asorb them . think that happend this past weakin . bit good friday after noon and didnt bite as good in that spot the rest of the weakin .
retired and now i will always fish
----------------------------------------------------------------------------Sounds right to me. Females go in and out several times and the ones that have really runny eggs may be between trips or may be in a pause / stop due to weather.Originally Posted by papasage
