    Angry I Fell In!

Ok, I'm big boy going on 74 years young.

    Have back issues.

    Got 12 ft Jon Boat
Had a lawn chair in the car, hey it straddles the boat seat.

    Grandson rows.
I'm in the back. Thinking that next time out wont use
the lawn chair, I felt top heavy.

We fished for about 4 hours. Grandson got skunked.
    I got 3 nice ones.

Then one stupied move, I casted with my right hand
over my left shoulder (most of the day) last thing I
saw was my grandson holding on both sides of the boat
I'm thinking to myself "I cant take him over with me".

Dropped like a rock head first down off the side of the boat.
Thinking which way is up. Then saw light on the water.
started swimming upwards, seem forever. Grandson
claims I popped up like a bobber (Had my life vest on!!!!! You hear that guys..........use your da.............m life vest)

Now here was the problem, fully clothed, 74 no strength
in the arms. If I tried to pull myself in on the side of the boat would have tipped it over.

Floated to the rear, tried to lift myself up, felt like a rock.
If the grandson came to the back of that 12 footer we both
    would have went in.

Here we are on 20 acre lake on a Monday semi private lake.
What are the chances of someone else being out in the lake on a working day? Zero to none.

Just happened there was a pattoon boat he came over
and it was about all we could do to get me out.

There are going to be some changes made.

1.) a solid step ladder off the rear, removable.

2.) that small of boat there will be a buddy system (no more lone trips)

3.) some sort of out rigger like the Hawians have on their little dingges.

    What have I missed,

WANT TO GET BACK ON THE BULL AND RIDE HIM AGAIN.

The reason I am airing my dirty laundry (clean now) is
to bring up the safety issue, so beware I AM WATCHING YOU"

I did a backflip out of my boat while boarding saturday.. About 30 or so people attending out Slabfest saw me do it.. We all had a good laugh...then i went to change before cooking..

it had rained most of the morning so the boat was wet and my shoe was slick..I was falling on a 4 rod holders on a tee bar so I just went on over it instead of trying to stay in the boat..both of us were lucky..my head hit bottom first and i had to flip to get my head up in 2 foot water..wish i could have seen it..I would have loved to see a video of you floating behind your boat...lol glad you was not hurt and smart enough to wear your life vest.

Wow Bob. I'm sure that got your heart pumping! I'm glad you had your life vest on and that you maintained enough calm to prevent tragedy both for you and your grandson. That and I do believe someone up there was looking out for you too.
    Skeered me just reading it.

glad to hear you got out of that ok. guess that is a lesson for the grandkid.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

Extremly glad to hear your OK! I had my first fall in last year also. Terrible fealling not being able to pull yourself in. I clung to a partly submerged tree to catch my breath in a late year bass tourny last year to get my strength to climb up my boat motor to get back in. Complety drenched and freezing I only managed 1 more hour till I went home. Was by myself because partner was sick. It happens to the best of us! Hang in there and stay safe!
Was that a bite? Forgot what they feel like!

Glad you're alright! The first step is definitely the life jacket.
