    Default Spawn question

Someone told me that he had heard with the water temp changing so much (up and down) that sometimes fish will absorb the eggs and not spawn

Does anyone know if that is true or just another "wives" tale that is incorrect as are most of those urban legends - like "wind out of the east, fish bite the least"

    Not sure about absorbing them.
I've heard they drop them over deep water if conditions never get right for them.

Not sure how a Crappie would absorb the eggs. Not saying it doesn't happen that way.

Last June on Table Rock some of the females still had a lot of eggs in June. They were suspended over 50 ft of water. By July, non of the females had eggs.

Have been living here in Clinton for 9 years and fishing Truman for 10. My experience with spring spawning crappie is that they do not all lay their eggs, just for the fact that we catch plenty of summer pattern crappie that still have eggs. What happens to the eggs is beyond me. As for lake conditions, I have done better on flooded conditions. I feel most people think you have to fish the banks this time of year but with falling elevations the fish won't be there very long or in great numbers. Fished the origanal bank over the weekend and did very well. Seen alot of people fishing tight to the banks and way to fast and had nothing to show for it.

I sent a email to the local biologist about how the process works when fish absorb their eggs.
I'll let you know what I find out.
