Took my 7 and 5 year olds to the Frio River, Garner State Park area, to try our hand at seining bait. Minnows around here are $3/Doz.

2 runs with the 20' net and we were through, 20 minutes worth of fun. Took them home and dumped in in my homemade minnow tank. We'll see how long they live.






Ended up with 253 minnows, 21 dozen. $60 dollars worth.

Wow that is high priced minnows. I think here we can get them for $9 a pound? I may be forgetting, but they were even less a few years back. I think a half pound is like $6 maybe.

I don't know if we have minnows that look as good as yours in the wild here. I know I don't see that many and most I see have a black stripe down the side.

We do have tons of shad though.

Good way to have some fun and get bait at the same time so good for you!

Bait is high around here, 6o miles west of San Antonio.

We had a blast. I think I'm going to put a 500 gallon stock tank in my barn and do this right.

Might even look into selling a few to cover my gas.

Some day them kids are going to be grown up, and sitting somewhere drinking coffee, and they'll say,

"You know, we used to have a blast with dad - seining those minnows back when I was a kid -
You can't buy that much fun these days!"

Yep...memories being made. At $3 a doz. I'd DEFINITELY be looking for alternatives though. Good job
