Default Congratulations to Wally "Mr. Crappie" Marshall

Wally was recently notified that he will be part of the class of 2008 inductees to the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame.

    See attatched press release:

    April 8, 2008 8:00 A.M.

    By TOMMY A. GARNER

SPRINGVILLE, Tenn.- Garry Mason, Founder and CEO of the "Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame, announced early Friday morning that Tom Knapp, Jerry Martin, Bill Jordan, George Cochran, Preston Pittman, Wally Marshall, Jimmy Houston and Cris Houston will be inducted into the "Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame during the Annual Induction Ceremony to be held on August 29th, 2008 at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The South Eastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) will be receiving the inaugural Legends of the Outdoors American Organization of the Year for Outdoor Achievement Award.

The "Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be the 7th Annual event, where men and women who have made an impact and considerable contributions to the outdoors and the outdoor industry have been honored. "The Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame, has been established to recognize those outdoor sportsmen and sportswomen who, through countless hours of hard work and devotion to the outdoors, in both hunting and fishing, have played an integral part in setting the standards and guidelines for the rest of the outdoor world to follow.

Nationally known hunting and fishing guide, Garry Mason, saw a need to recognize those who have contributed to the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing. Mason put together a committee of outdoor writers and others to nominate individuals who have dedicated their lives to the outdoors. Thus, the "Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame was created. The "Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is unique and one of the only places on earth that I know of where you can meet people like Ray Scott, Hank Parker, Shaw Grigsby, Forrest L. Wood, Wade Bourne, Alex Rutledge and many other Legends of the Outdoors hall of Fame members and have an opportunity to visit with them one-on-one, get autographs and have photo opportunities with each of them.

The inductees of the "Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame reads like a "Who's-Who" of some of the most well known Outdoors personalities.

This year's event will again be held at the Sheraton Music City in Nashville Tennessee on August 29th. The doors of the Convention Room will open at 5 P.M. for the pre-ceremony time of meet and greet, and as usual there will be a number of former Legends celebrities there to attend the festivities. A wonderful meal will be catered again this year and the meal will begin at 6:30 P.M with the induction of the new Legends nominees following. This year's guest entertainer will be country music entertainer, Kevin Blake Weldon.

As in every Legends banquet in the past, the sponsors of the event will have displays inside and outside of the Convention Center with representatives of their companies on hand to provide information about the products displayed. A silent auction will be on-going as well as a live auction after the induction ceremony. Many unique items will be auctioned, including a one-of-a-kind hand carved "Legends of the Outdoor’s" National Hall of Fame duck decoy by Nebraska Master Wildlife Carver, Mr. Ron Cleveland.

That's great news for Mr. Crappie! I am a little surprised that they are inducting Jimmy Houston after the caged deer hunt though. Nonetheless, way to go Wally. Hopefully this will bring a little more attention to crappie fishing and habitat management.

    Congrats !!

I would like to know if there is a petition too. How does someone like that deserve praise from sportsman that hunt the right way. If you want to hunt something from a cage, thats fine. But don't put it off as fair chase.
