kmatcek - Go to google and type in www.outdoorchannel.com and you can get a schedule of all their programs. The times listed are EDT, so you will have to make the appropriate adjustments for your area.

Man that was a bummer. I just dont see why with the crappie being the supposedly #3 game fish in the country we are stuck watching 5 min blurbs of crappie fishing. I cant turn on the TV and not see those idots looking for gold. or some rich boy that looks like a walking bill board for LL Bean fly fishing for cold water carp. Outdoor TV in Arkansas has really gotten stale.

Yep, for a show that said it was crappie fishing. It was a total of 5 or 7 minutes of crappie fishing. Was how to use a cork and jig during the winter. The rest was all about bass fishing, they did have a story of guide that was handicapped that made you think.

If it is the same Jimmy Houston episode that was on another channel, he was catching big crappie in Kansas on roadrunners. Ole Jimmy must own stock in Blakemoor, he always is casting roadrunners for crappie.

I agree....Jimmy sure does love his Roadrunners!

I use them occassionally myself, but only when I feel I need to throw something different to trigger a bite......after I drag the paint off everything else I throw a Roadrunner, they are just a little too pricey to be losing if it gets hung up....just like them Slider heads....

'Ol Laughing boy (Jimmy Houston) has been sponsored by Blakemore for a long time .... and he uses Roadrunners (or "Runroaders" as he calls them, sometimes) a lot, especially when Crappie fishing. He's about the only person I've ever seen use a Roadrunner to vertical jig with  ... well, except for the one time I saw "Killer Palmer" do it  ...LOL!!
I've used Roadrunners for over 25yrs, for Crappie fishing ... and have been quite successful with them. Heck, it might have even been 'ol Jimmy that turned me on to them, in the first place ...LOL!!

I saw that show - with the old guy using a fly rod and "flipping" with it - but, never actually heard if "he" was using a Roadrunner, or not. He probably was, though ... being as how it was Jimmy's show (sponsored by Blakemore) and even though he was "guiding" Jimmy on that lake. TV Anglers don't take too kindly being shown up by a guest using a competitors bait ....LOL!! (and the Sponsors don't dig it much, either !!) ....................cp

What we need is for Crappie. Com to start it's own tv show featuring nothing but crappie fishing. 30 minutes of crappie tips and tactics for spring, summer, fall and winter. I'd gladly volunteer myself to research the idea, lol.

Please go for it Brad!!!!!!!! I do not realy think for a minute that crappie fishing is the 3rd most popular game fish after green carp and catfish. I bet with the literaly thousands of hours of fishing shows a year on the different outdoor tv networks there is not 10 hours dedicated to crappie fishing. Guess I need to start mining gold. Heck theres 20 hours a week dedicated to that.

I will do a segment on long-line trolling....at Lake Oconee.....or dock-shooting at Sinclair....let's run with it!

Fishing and gold mining have very parrallel and similar characteristics.
Never panned for gold but thought it would be fun to try especially on the days it is so windy one wouldn't want to be on the water. At least you would be outside for either activity.

I believe The Outdoor Channel would put on any show that has good enough sponsors to pay for the air time. So, if folks wanted a Crappie Show, all that is needed is some sponsorship and some good crappie video. I plan on taking my camcorder with me when I am fishing with some of the local crappie fishermen. I do several hunting dog videos already, crappie videos should not be much of a problem. If others would do the same thing and we could line up sponsors, a crappie show could become a reality.

You hit that one right! Sponsorship is the key. You would not believe how much it takes to air one program on the OC or OLN. I have been very lucky to get Midwest Crappie on the Sportsman Channel and other local stations. I have great sponsors which makes everything possible. AND, you all are right, I think more people crappie fish than any other species. The response that I receive shows it. FOLKS LOVE CRAPPIE FISHING!!!!!

GOOD FISHIN!!!!

I called JM & Associates ( Jerry McKinnis the fishin hole) here in Little Rock to ask them why there is not any more crappie fishing shows. I have yet to get a call back but will post the response when I get one.
One thing I did do is go to the outdoor channel web site and send them a note thanking them for having at least some crappie fishing on there show. I would think that if all the guys on this message board do the same it could get them thinking about putting a show on for us. At least they might give one of the TV fisherman a box of jigs and a camera and tell them to film us a crappie fishing show. I am just getting board watching these guys catch green carp, kill turkeys and mine for gold.

Guys be patient as soon as my girlfriend becomes an accountant and she makes a lot money she said I could quit my job and do something I enjoy. So I will become the Bill Dance of crappie TV. I will wear an Alabama hat though cause I'm a Tide fan. And I won't fall out of the boat as much setting the hook. And I will also be guiding deer hunts, turkey hunts, and duck hunts on our million acres... I was always told: If you gonna dream, you might as well dream big!

I might add that I post hunting dog video clips on www.huntingfootage.com They have plans to have a show where amateur videographers can make hunting videos and have them put on a national TV show. I reckon someone needs to start a www.fishingvideo.com where guys can post video clips of their fishing adventures. I know I would post alot of video clips of crappie and catfishing. Can video clips be posted on this board? I may rent some video storage and let the public access some of my videos of local folks catching crappie.

whatever happened to the sportsman channel online fishing shows

Their server probably couldn't handle all the hits it was getting from the folks on Crappie.Com.
I was just getting started using it and it went down. :(

I did call Time Warner Cable here in KC to ask them to put The Sportsman Channel on and they didn't give a flip to my request and just as well have flipped me off. Wounder why I pay them for my cable, ISP and phone service. Sure would like to flip them off.

One time Comcast quit carrying the Outdoor channel. I flipped it on there that night and it was gone. I called them to see what was wrong and they told me they didn't carry it any more. So I told them to send somone out to pick up my box 'cause I don't want cable anymore. They got the OC back after a few months and I got cable again.

we have the outdoor channel where i live but they don't show enough fishing. most of times when i have time to sit down and watch it they have the gold prospecting. the majority of the channel is devoted to that stuff
