Like you thinking, "Buy American"

Not sure how to put this, but I was going to consider Yamaha for a motor. But
that decision has changed in favor of Mercury. Why? Buy Amercian,...that's why! And secondly,...should I need parts or service,...it will be far easier to
get parts for the Merc in the long run. Thirdly,...despite past experiences with
Mercury, they deserve one more chance. And since I am going four stroke for
fuel economy's sake,I hear Mercury's small four strokes do pretty good. Did
I say "Buy American"? Well,...it seems that Merc's small motors from 2.5 to
30 hp are made by Tohatsu, and Tohatsu is known for their dependability. So,
having said that,I should be able to depend on Mercury more so than in the past. Considering a 15 hp four stroke rope start outboard for that A-14 Lund
I want so bad.

Only thing Mercury is moving part of there motor making to China..
Also That is why I went with a E-Tec made in the Good old USA.

Only problem with 4-stroke are the carbs they are prone to clog jets in middle of the carb. The best way to keep this from happening is to run stable in every tank and when you get boat on trailer pull gas line off run it out of fuel.I rebuild about 150 carbs a year due to cloged jets.

I don't know what brand of gas you may be running in your tow vehicle or
your boat,...but I run Marathon that has the STP fuel system cleaner already mixed in the gas. Would that help out any on these small four strokes,or should I go ahead and plan on running Stabil all the time regardless?
No disrespect intended, but until BRP gets the E-TEC down in the horsepower
range I need,I will stay with Merc. But then again,...is anything truly made in this country anymore,...I mean 100% American? I almost have to doubt it.
Guys,...I don't want to start any arguements or anything like that,...but
think about it. Mercury is a good example of that happening as you just
mentioned. But will that change my mind towards Mercury? Most likely not.
To each his own,..whether you are an Evinrude guy,Johnson guy,Merc man,
or whatever. We all have our personal preferences when it comes to our brands of boats and outboards we run and the cars/trucks we all drive.
no thanks, ill stick to my johnnyrudes.
that Johnson outboards were invented in Indiana? Goggle it.... Its an interesting story.
Wooly
Nothing wrong with that,my friend. As I said,...everyone has their own
motor preference. You're an Evinrude/Johnson guy and you should stick
with their motors. For me,...eventhough my experience with Merc was not
always the best,I still feel I should stick with their motors anyway.
None Taken..
The big reason I did not go with a Mercury.. Was everyone was telling me that I could not buy a Lund Boat without the Mercury motor. That or a Nissan for this year only..
Well that is like telling me no.. Not good. Ask me and its fine.. So now I have a new Lund ordered from Lund my way. And it has a 90 E-tec on it. I for one don't think theres a bad motor build now days.
And Also up to what last year Mercury 4-stokes were most part a Yamaha,
Also food for Thought. Will that new Mercury be a 2 year old motor or a 2008? As mecury did away with there year motors. Now they do not have a left over motor. If it was built in say Dec 2006 and did not sell at the dealers. And its the same motor as being built today. You may get a 2006 for a 2008.
Good luck with what ever motor you get.
