    Default Jon boat motor question...

I had a 1976 Polar Craft 14' that is 5' wide given to me. It is in very good shape and has a livewell and I want to put a motor on it. I have another buddy that has a 20hp tiller steer motor that I can get for next to nuttin'. Is the 20hp to big for that boat? Thanks Fred

    I did have a 14' with a 20 on it. The boat had a 48" bottom. Shouldn't be a problem.

I'm guessing the 20 HP will be OK based on a listing I found on Craigslist for a 14' Polar Craft that has a 25 hp on it.

I don't think there should be a problem. Look on the Mfg. tag and see what the max recommended Horse Power is. I have had both a 18 and a 25 on a 14ft boat.

Thanks fellers. I thought the 20 would be good but the tag is missing and I wanted a "2nd" opinion. :D

I have a 14 footer and it is rated for a 25 HP. Still has the tag on it.

The mfg will tell you that. Have a friend in fla that had aa 60 hp on a 14 ft big john. It would scoot pretty good . Didnt say he was wrapped very tight!
