    Default Question for you tite-liners/spider-riggers

Why is it that some people catch fish while others don't?

Example: There are (3) boats, all fishing in sight of each
other, all boats are fishing (8) rods, all (8) rods have the
same number of hooks/jigs on each rod. So you can see
so far everything appear to be equal. But (1) of these boats
catch lots of fish and the other (2) boats catch hardly any
    fish.
Now the Big Question, What is the (1) boat doing to catch
fish while the other boats are not catching them?
There will probably be many reasons, but, I would like to
    hear yours.

Three quick things come to mind:
    • Do the non-catchers have exactly the same goodies on the hooks as the catchers, and are at the same depth?
    • Speed does make a difference (and I'm talking tenths-of-MPH / example: .5 mph vs. .9 mph vs. 1.2 mph).
    • And as far as "being in sight of one another" really leaves the door wide open on differences of what's under the surface - depth, drops, wood vs. no-wood, etc... A lot of times, they're "right here"; get out of this little zone, and no catchin'

That's just what I've learned over the years. Good Luck.

Wink It all boils down to ....

depth, speed, & location. (a summary of what Luvjign just said) You can't catch what ain't there :p

All other things being equal ... the catchin' boat is probably in the proper "location", while the no catchin' boats are not, they're just in the same area.
Given that all three boats are fishing over the same area -- the no catchin boats are going too slow/fast .... or fishing too deep/shallow. It could be any one of these, two out of the three, or all three reasons. That would be the way it would probably play out, if the fish were concentrated on one particular aspect of the structure beneath the boats ... be that on the channel edge, directly over the channel, down in the channel, suspended above a hump, suspended above a row of stumps/submerged wood, or something along those lines. If the fish were just scattered, and on the move, it could be more because of the depth or speed.

    ... cp

Its a good question with a million possible answers. Its like how can one boat have out 8 poles and all rigged alike. One guy will catch 10 the other guy catches 2? I have been in the boat and have 27 fish and the guy 24" away had 4. I think it could come down to good old luck!

Isn't it weird when one side of the boat or even one rod in particular just seems to catch more. I played with yellow line last summer and that rod caught as many as any other 4. it could be as simple as that.

All the above is correct . If you really want to see the difference you must have good electronics. Color shape size and speed is important but if you are not on the fish just enjoy the boat ride.

Depth, color, speed, action, line visibility or maybe they are right over the brush or school of fish.
