I Have Noticed Several Jigs On Here With Sickle Hooks. Are They Really That Much Better Than Regular Hooks? What Makes Them Better?

I don't doubt there sharp, but there are plenty of sharp regular hooks on the market. I'd put Gamakatsu/Owner/Daichi up against any hook in terms of sharpness.
Sickle hooks just strike me as a gimmick. If they do have other advantages, though, I'm open to hearing them. For example, does the shape help hooking or holding?

The only thing or advantage they have is the size of the gap opening is larger when compared to other hooks. They are probably the sharpest hook that size in jig hooks. I use Daiichi for my fly tying because I buy them wholesale and it's convenient.
I think Gamakatsu make the best, sharpest hooks made, but they are first expensive ( I use to sell them to tackle shops and marinas as a dealer) and the most important thing is they don't make enough sizes in small jig hooks that I know of. Maybe they have started to, but I have not seen them. Like I said they are my favorite hook and the only hook I use for Bass fishing. I have so many of them I will never need to buy any more and I sold my remaining stock that was for sale about 2 years back.
Lay 25 sickle hooks in your hand and then 25 of any other. And see how many sickle hooks are stuck in you. Sharp is not the right word for them.
And also you will catch more fish that you would miss on the others.
Also Gamakatsu is not sharper then the sickles are. i have both and the sickles are sharper. I may have gotten a bad batch of the Gamakatsu hooks. I have been using them for a long time. But going to sickles for crappie and catfish.

Seem like they would be good for finicky, light bitters, but on the other hand good stump hangers also.
Used hooks from Japan and China commercial fishing for years and there hooks out caught any other hooks we could get. And if there hooks hold up to that kind of fishing you can bet they will sure hold up to fishing for crappie
Also where do you think most other hooks are made? NJ or Fl? NO over seas
Gamakatsu hooks are made in japan..,,
Called Owner hooks Japan
VMC guess where? China
