Question About Crappie

Which Crappie get bigger, the Black Crappie or the White Crappie? My Dad asked me this morning and I couldnt tell him so I figured I would go to the VERY best place for information and ask.

All we have around here are black crappie, so I can't give you any kind of local comparison, but from all the photos I've ever seen, and there's tons of them on this site, I'd have to say that white crappie get bigger. Every photo of true "monster" slabs I see is of a white crappie.

According to the records(state ) & etc, It's the White Crappie.

I would have to say the white get bigger as well. I have caught a lot of both here in MS and my biggest have been whites. I will say though we've got some real stocky blacks too.

We have both here and the biggest I have caught were Whites.

Whites in general get larger

A quick search shows the white crappie record at 5lb 3oz with the black crappie record at 4lb 14oz. I can't guarantee this is accurate but if it is there's really not much difference.

Bigger how, in length or weight. It has been my experience that at the same weight a black crappie crappie will be shorter in length and the white longer. Black crappie tend to be stockier in built while whites are longer and leaner.
