Any line will break if you exceed its limits, and the knot IS the weakest link.

I use a Palomar when possible and a Trilene knot there after with 4,6,and 8# Mr. Crappie Hi Viz and no problems. How old is the line? Sometimes if you don't wet that 4# well it will stretch at the knot causing a weak spot. Good luck.

    1. Is your line old?

    2. Is it scratched up/abraided?

    3. It isn't copolymer, go buy some.

    4. What knot do you use?
Good things come to those who bait.

I like the loop knot... seems to hold well no matter the stress it's put under.

Like Wichita said, first thing for any knot is to wet it good before pulling it tight.

The Palomar knot and Trilene knot are both stronger than a plain old cinch or even an improved cinch. Neither of them is any harder to tie, so that might be something to look at.

    I hope this helps!

I'd say it's just your knot. I would at least move to the improved clinch... The clinch knot is a poor knot in terms of breaking strength and is known for coming loose especially on slick lines. The improved clinch takes hardly any more effort and will help a good bit. I would suggest going to the palomar...I've never had any problem with it breaking tied with any line.

I have the same problem at times when I use the clinch knot. It is just so dang easy and fast for me to tie. I now use the palomar knot and the surgeons loop. Problem gone. Also, the clinch seemed to break at the knot more with certain types of hook eyes/lures. It is not the line, its the knot. I never really had a problem with it slipping, just would break at times when tying it. So IMHO, switch to the palomar or loop. I really like the way the loop works with jigs. Fred out.:D
