Impressive...
I usually fish for shovelheads one weekend every summer. Up in the Maumee River.
Caught a 25 pounder last year.
Yep....will start when the water hits the low 60's...end of this month oughta do it and all through april. I generally get my fill through april until all the yachets come out. Gotta love lobbing about 6 or 8 6500's out around the boat with bait big enough to take home and eat if they dont get ate or die lol
yelp lower 60 for sure its just around the corner and i for one cant wait..
i fish pre spawn hard then try to find a spawning ground the full steam ahead for post spawn but really late summer early fall is when i catch my monsters 50s 60s after the summer when they lay kinda dormant when its really hot when the water starts to cool is a good time i have found

I'll be getting after flatheads come mid-May when I hit Toledo Bend for a week of fishing. Doing mostly trotlining and juglining for them, crappie and big bream fishing during the day.
I might hit the Brazos River rice canals if I get a chance to head down to Galveston Co. to visit, but the water MUST be moving in order to catch gamefish...otherwise, overrun with carp, buffalo and gar!
