Hi all
I'm new to the site. So this is my first post. I'm trying to figure out
those doggone fickle specks. I've found them in a lake in fremont,
but haven't had any luck on muskegon lake. About the only fish I
catch in muskegon are perch & gills. I don't fish for eye's much.
If anyone is local I would like to hear from you. For that matter
even if your not ,just holler.

Ahoy Jigs-up! There's Baseline lake down in Allegan county and northeast a bit past Hesperia is Nichols which does pretty good in April. Good luck!

Hey, Doodler,
I come up there once a year to visit the family and I've caught some nice crappie around the pylons next to the old clipper boat that is moored up. (muskegon lake)

Hey Zimzam, what time of the year do you usually make it up? Maybe we can hook up for some crappie action. Keep me posted.

Hey Jigs:
I saw your post and thought I would give you a quick reply. I used to live in Muskegon and still own a house there. Memorial Drive and Pennsylvania Ave on the North side of the lake. I live in Charlotte, NC now and the fishing is a little different. The water is a lot muddier but it never freezes The Crappie (haven't heard anyone call them specks here, that's what they call speckled trout (saltwater) and the way it's pronounced here rhymes with snappy Anyway, they get big here. I've caught several this spring over 2#, 15-16 inches. A dozen of those and you have some fish! Also there is no size or quantity limit for Crappie on most NC lakes. Another thing that took some getting used to is no limit on the number of rods. The guy I fished next to last night was using 28, honest! Six to eight is about all I can keep track of. I fished Muskegon a lot but never much for specks. I would rather catch (and eat) perch, gills, or eyes. I have caught a lot of specks in the bayous around Grand Haven. Try Pottawatomi or Stearns. What lake did you fish near Fremont. I spent every summer of my youth (a long time ago) on Long Lake (aka Ryerson Lake). Well Good Luck fishing and if you are ever headed this way drop me a PM and I'll take you out after some big specks.
