Guess it all depends on the season since different weather fronts dictates how you fish for them. Almost all of the biggest slabs i've landed came from brush or some sort of cover in shallow water on ice jigs tipped with maggots.

I switch tactics with the situations but day in day out slow trolling a minner rig will put slabs in the boat 9 times out 10!!

The key for me is to build lots of brushpiles and condos. Be very mobile , more like green carp fishermen. They call it run and gun. We may fish as many as 40 brushpiles or condos in a morning. They are usually put out in rows ,each about 100' apart. We find an area with fish and move to next spot if the fish are small. The biggest and most aggressive slabs hit first most of the time. Remember what type of structure and depth the biggest fish are on that day. Consintrate on the similar areas you have built. Always go back later in the day to best spots as more slabs may have become active. This is my tactic most of the year. We have over 200 brushpiles and stakebeds, the more you have out improves the odds of finding the right area/structure.

Law of Averages for me. The more fish I catch, the better my odds are of having a big one. Now if I could only catch more fish...

I usually catch mine in the water!! :D My bigger fish seem to come from under water structure that is close to a deeper channel.
