    Default Lake Wapapelo

I am going to Dexter at the end of March. My wife's brother lives there and he says there are crappie in Lake Wapapelo. Could anyone give me any info on the lake or maybe another good crappie lake near Dexter.
    Thanks

    Beware

Wappapello is a lower end eater. BIG TIME. Stay in the boat lanes (River channel). If you have never been there before get a map before hand and read it.
Wappapello was built as a flood control lake, they flooded swamp forest of Cypress trees. Before they flooded it the cut down the cypress trees and the stumps are still there (JUST UNDER the Water Line) 60 years later. Being Cypress they will for the next 60 years also.
    good map of the lake

    Great crappie fishing at Wappapello.

Thanks Duane. I have fished Lake Weiss for over 30 years so I sure know what stumps can do to a lower unit. I'll post a report after I go.

Duane's right about Wappepello being shallow. The end of March, they'll be pre spawn so look for them stacked up on flats near drop offs. I'd look around the mouth of Lost Creek to start. You might also take a look at Duck Creek near Puxico Mo. Its not far from Dexter either.

Great info guys. I have been there riding around in a pontoon without a depthfinder so I didn't realize it was a shallow lake. When we went we launched at a big ramp near the dam. Before I go I'll get a map.

You will do better in a pontoon boat than any other type. They do not sit as deep in the water

When you are at the dam and look out at that big stretch of water it can be misleading. I have seen people stuck out there in the winter pool. (including myself).

The ribs at Dexter BBQ will make you throw rocks at Hickory Log...They come from fat hogs, not boar hogs.:D
