Default Shrimping and Crabbing season in Louisiana

Does anyone know what month one can start recreational Shrimping and Crabbing in Louisiana? Especially in the Rockefeller and Big Lake areas.

We use to start crabbing this time of year.Never shrimped. You might want to check with some locals and see if Rockefeller is open to recreational crabbing since Katrina. It was my under standing that the WMA south past Hackberry La was closed to crabbing,..It was last spring when i went there to crab, and was told that info.

Rockafeller is open and I got a report last week of a couple of guys catching 9 dozen nice crabs. It is still a little early for the shrimp, the usually start running as early as late may but usually sometime around the middle of June.

The WMA south of Hackberry that was closed after the canes is Sabine but they reopened it last year.

As for Big Lake, I haven't heard about the shrimping or crabbing yet but I did hear if you weren't catching redfish in the lake, it was b/c you didn't have your hook in the water! I will probably be making a trip sometime this week and I will give a report.
