    Default depth finder question

installing an eagle 320 in the driveway today on a friend's boat. we've got everything hooked up right and the depth is showing 8.2 ft, but the transducer cannot be more than 2 ft off the ground. is this common or should it be pretty close to right even out of water?

I think they gotta be in the water to work correctly.

That's dead on, won't work at all unless in water.

Yepper, in the water. Be advised, don't touch that transducer when its turned on or you may get a suprise!

It is working. The sound travels about 4 times faster in water and is tricking the unit,
