Default D V Fishing boats: Giving some techniques on shallow water and high winds

My dad and I have been fishing out of a deep V for over 10 years. Since we no longer tournament bass fish and only crappie guide and crappie tournament fish we will never switch back to a bass boat. The advantages to a deep v out number the disadvantages 3 to 1, in my opinion. If you are having trouble on those stumps, just shift a majority of your weight to the front and your boat will seldom hang up. You will just slide to one side or the other. And as for the wind problem: Take a logging chain, about 6' in length, tie it to a good rope and drag it behind your boat. It won't hang up and it will allow you to control your speed using your trolling motor. The more rope you let out the slower you go. Trust me! We have a Tracker Tundra that takes of with the slightest wind gust and this is the only way we can control our boat. And, as all good boat fisherman know, boat control will catch more fish!
Here is a pic of our Crappie Fishing Machine so you can better understand what I mean! I love the Deep V:D

Good idea....gonna try that...with a pontoon boat, I fight the wind all the time...I end up sideways, backwards, everywhich way it seems. You think this would work as well as the drift socks? Thanks for the tip.

I used 2 socks for years and all that ever did was slow me down. But the chain will allow you to get close a piece of cover or structure and fish right over it. It has been one of the best things I have learned about boat control in years. I am sure it will work fine with a pontoon. I use two chains. you may discover that two will work best if you have a big boat.

I don't have a dog in this as I don't use chain and rarely sink brush...

but I know at least one older gentleman who'd go nuts if he saw you
dragging log chain through his mats or stakebeds

I can see it on Reelfoot, I don't think it's gonna hurt them stumps if all
the boats haven't hurt 'em yet. Just a thought, Jeff

Jeff I sure don't think he should see me fishing then. LOL But I do not use a chain. Also never have hurt a bed with it. As I have went back with the SI and its still like it was when I started.:D
I use a 12" piece of PVC filled with 25 lbs of lead. Works just as good as the chain and not a mess like the mud can be on the chain also.
Be glad when my Deep V gets here toward the end of the month.
    Pete
