Thanks. We all appreciate it.
For a suspending jig, you'd have to have some way to balance it with the right amount of air or floating material with the amount of weight on it. I think the best way to suspend a jig is to just fish it under a float.
just wanted to compliment all the custom jig makers on the board. There is some really nice work out there.
This may sound like a crazy question, but it's something I though about.
Has anyone tried to make a suspending jig?
Is that even possible?
If you think there isn't a God, you better be right!

Most people just use a float to suspend a jig, but I don't think that's what you're asking.
I have heard of people tying suspending flies. Basically, they just tied some foam into the body of the fly. This counterbalanced the weight of the hook so that the fly really suspended in the water.
I don't think this would work with with a jig because a jig is so much heavier than a fly. You'd need a lot of foam to offset a 1/32 oz or bigger jig. You could probably make the jig body out of cork, though, or some of the very buoyant soft plastics.
the only other way would be to rig it like a carolina rig and use a floating jig head with the lenth leader to make the jig float at the level you want.

Hmm. I might have to try it. Even if you made it sink slower or introduced some erratic action that'd be cool.
I have a few jigs which I have no idea where they came from. They have a plastic body of various colors and they float. I plan to add a minnow or something to them so I can get them to go below the surface. I presume if I figured the weight right, they would work as a suspended jig.
I would just rather f-n-f a jig or dropshot it. The costs would be too prohibitive for me to even consider a suspending jig.

When Jigs Look As Good As Shipahoy41's You Dont Need To Have A Suspending Jig. The Crappie Will Get Them Before They Hit The Bottom. I Would Say His Jigs Are More Like Magnet Jigs. When Crappie Suck Em' In They Stick To Their Mouths.
