The reason the record is so low is because up until last year there was no distinction between white and black crappie records in NC. They started the white crappie at 1lb8oz and the reord has been set twice in the past year. It'll be broke again this year by me.:D

Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Mor than likely will. I never get any white crappie where I fish on Falls. I know they are in there I think cause I saw herb or someone post a picture of some whites in the Eno one time.

I think I broke that record Saturday at lake Norman with what I think was a white crappie. Went right at 2lbs.
    I don't fish because I want to, I fish because I HAVE to !

The white crappie has a slightly whiter shaded body with vertical patterns on it. The black crappie is basically the opposite it has a slighter darker body with black splotches all over it. You can also tell by the dorsal fin rays. I think but can't remember but I think the white crappie has 5 to 6 rays and the black crappie has 7 to 8 rays.

I think you are referring to a post I had last week in response to a question about crappie records. I have seen bigger whites on a wall also. NCNat is right. They recently started to distiguise the 2. I pulled that info from the NC Wildelife Recources Commission. Here is the link; http://www.ncwildlife.org/fs_index_03_fishing.htm
    Tight lines to everyone
