Nice fish Keith. I'm jealous. I'm hoping to get out Sunday but don't know for sure yet as we are getting new carpet installed Tuesday and have a lot to do.
I took this beautiful day off from work and decided to go fishing at Beaverdam Swamp. I still did not get large numbers. Instead, I got large fish. I caught 7 fish and all were keepers. The two largest were 1.75 pounds and 14.75" long each. The smallest was around 1.25 pounds. Six females just busting with roe and one male. All were caught in the first few hundred yards where the route 606 creek intersects the main channel. One was caught around 10:30. Things were slow so I decided to try another creek that I thought would hold fish; nada. So I returned to spot where I got the first one in the afternoon and got six more in one hours time.
They were close to bottom in 7 feet of water adjacent to the first stand of timber to the right as you enter the route 606 creek. No doubt the barometric pressure changes over the past day or two put them as deep as they could go near their spawning area. The jig of the day was a 1/8 ounce pink head with a green/chartreuse umbrella tube jig trolled at 1.2 mph. Five of the seven were taken on this jig. Several other boats were out there trying shallow in the timber or shallow in the same area I was fishing. They were only catching a few small ones.
The water temperature started at 52 and was at 57 in the afternoon when the small battery I use to power my electronics went on break. Here are the usual photos:

Nice Fish! You can sure tell what fish is the male. They do tend to get real dark around the spawn.

Beaverdam Swamp is the watershed for Gloucester. It is off Route 17 just a little north of Walmart and Home Depot.Originally Posted by tahoe 50
