A large 3/8 oz double willowleaf spinnerbait. It has a pair of #5 willowleaf spinner blades on it. Looks like a school of shad going through the water to me. They usually hit it in cover during the spring.

I've seen others catch and caught several crappies on trolled or cast muskie baits as big as 7 inches. I have also gotten several on a 5 inch twisters while walleye fishing.

personally ... 4" Gene Larew Plastic Craw, and also on a 1/4oz crankbait.

I've had fishing partners that have caught them on 1oz spinnerbaits, and various crankbaits.

Crappie were not the targeted species in any of these cases :p

38 special spinner bait with #7 charturce willow leaf blade. Big boy crappie fish, May 1994.
Also got a 8+ lb largemouth with the same spinner the same day. Bass is mounted and so is the spinner.

That why I knew the month. Purdy fish.

Got a 11'' crappie on a Pop- R topwater last spring. Surprized the heck out of me.
Also have caught them on 2 1/2 '' bass tubes, fishing for smallmouth. Takes a big crappie to eat 1 of them tubes.

I used to catch the heck out of big crappie on a 6" floating Rapala minnow on a golf course pond I used to have permission to fish. Had to stand in the water inside the willows to avoid getting hit by errant tee shots. I would cast it up in front of the willows and use a constant retrieve which would keep the bait just below the surface. they killed them. The biggest crappies I ever aught came from that pond. I was young and didn't apreciate the size then since I was actually bass fishing. Wish I woulda weighed some of 'em. I can't get permission to get back into that pond now as the golf course sold out and the new owner doesn't let people in. Probably doesn't want the lawsuit when some idiot fishermen finally gets killed by a golf ball. Also caught a few slabs at Barkley Lake on a 1/2 oune Rat L Trap and some at Dale Hollow on the big 1/2 ounce white spinner baits.
