    Default Arkansas Stone

I just acquired an Arkansas flat stone. (Rapala 135)

I've never used one before and know nothing about them.
This has no instructions, I need pictures.

Anyway, oil, water or dry is my question.

Totally amazing. Almost 60 years old , can't catch crappie or know how to use a sharpening stone.

I'm assuming it's a "hard Arkansas" stone. At any rate, oil, but don't over oil it. Wipe excess oil off with a rag. Those are mainly for putting a really fine edge on a hard steel knife. In other words, you might need to work a dull knife on a coarser/softer stone first. Then the hard Ark

I use mineral oil. I keep a bottle of it just for that. It works great. But the problem with having the bottle is that when I get a little full of it my wife tells me to take some of it instead of putting it on the sharpening stone.

I have used WD-40 for many years. My first Ark stone got so thin it finally broke while using it. They put a very sharp edge on your knife!

There are two things to aim for in life: First, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieves the second. Author unknown, but I like it!
