    Default Bugg's Island

Despite a lousy week, lousy weather and mechanical problems, we still managed to catch a few. Nothing to brag about like Brad (Squirrel Hunter) caught and he certainly has a right to brag. Keith. I didn't even know you were there. You should have hollered at me. I did get to chat briefly with Dave and I can assure everyone he is just as nice in person as he is here on the board. BTW Dave, we were putting up the boat for the last time when a fellow came in with about 20 nice ones. He caught them fishing 13ft deep in the middle of the creek. Thats about the only thing I didn't try (going that deep). I guess my biggest disapointment was my son came up from Tampa to fish with me and I was really hoping to get into them like we did last year. He had never been crappie fishing before. He made up for it by catching a couple big blue cats off the dock at the Little Retreat and he did have the lunker for the week. A crappie almost 2lb. I was sure hoping he would get one over 2lb. Anyway, he's hooked and says he'll definitely be back next year when we go if not sooner.

Do you think the fish will start spawning anytime soon down here? I'm looking to come down for two days from PA and want to try and hit it right. It would not be fun to spend all that $ in gas and not catch any.

If we get some warm weather for a few days or so they will be in pre-spawn areas. The areas I'm familiar with was loaded with boats because everyone knows its just a matter of time. I'm going to try to go back around the 14th of April when I have a few more days off.

You were working hard at the time looking for fish and I was already past my preset time to leave so I decided to leave you to the big ones. We'll get together for a slabfest soon. I reckon we need to let Brad go as well so he can show us how it is done. I think Beaverdam is going to bust lose this week. The paper reports the water temperature in the low to mid 50s and good crappie fishing there. It looks like tomorrow is going to be a rainout, but next week's weather is looking good. I my try Tuesday and will let everyone know how I did.

Bill, sorry to hear about the luck. I tried to get in touch with you several times but as you know the connection sucked. Let's go the weekend of 4/8/05. Dave has promised us all 3 pounders!
