    Default Boat Opinions Please

At the present time I'm fishing out of a 16' bass tracker deep-V with a 40 Hp motor, and it takes me what seems like forever to get from one hole to another, (it only runs 27mph). I was wondering if I should just put a bigger motor on the back, or get something bigger and faster. I guess what I want to know is your opinions on fishing out of a bass boat as compared to fishing out of a crappie boat. Which works better in the wind, ride, gas consumption, room, ect. Thanks in advance.:D

I just bought a skeeter iclass for crappie fishing. It sits low in the water (less wind catching) It will run mid 70s so you can get where you are going in a hurry. I love the big front deck for shootiing piers, I can stand up with lots of room to move around. I bought a extra sit down seat for the front so I can sit when my back starts to hurt from standing to long. The gunwails are low so when you cast low you do not hit the sides of the boat. It carries 4 batteries very well and with a 36 volt trolling motor wind is not a problem. The milage is not bad unless you have a heavy right foot.

Glass Bass boat pros: holds good in wind, good ride, very stable, lots of dry storage, goes fast.

Glass Bass boat cons: use more fuel, heavier to tow, gotta be more careful w/ hull, deeper draft (can't go as shallow), most don't have front live well.

Not much room w/ a dual console bass boat. I catch more fish outta my jons but it's a rough ride and hard to hold in the wind.

I would go with a larger aluminum 18' deep V and increase the HP some.

I have fished out of all kinds of boats, I have a tracker 18.5 targa now, I love it. Owned it now for 3 years, 115 = GOOD on GAS. Not hard to tow, wouldn't have anything else. Handles rough water real good.

What is the biggest motor that your boat is rated for? I just turned one like yours down for that very reason. 40 just isn't enough. I keep hearing that with a 90 its a great boat.

I believe 75 Hp is the largest motor it can handle. That's what I'm concerned about. If I put a 75Hp on the back of a 1999 boat, will the boat be able to take the stress of the weight and the torque of that motor. Then I'll own a boat with the motor being worth more than the boat, but would I then have the speed that I wanted? Lots of questions, and that is why I'm asking. I know you guys will have the answer, or at least give me a good idea of where I'm at in this decision process!

If its rated for a 75 it shouldn't be any problem. I run a 75 now and considered swapping the motors but I'm not in any big hurry. If he came down on the price I'd be tempted.

im running a 75 merc on a 165 Lowe fishing machine which is a deep V. I got 39 MPH today on the GPS and that was with a full front live well and all my gear. I have got 42 with a lighter load. If i was going to buy another boat (for me) i would try and find a used tracker 18 foot Allfish with a 90 or 115 on it. I wanted one of these when i bought my lowe but they were out of my price range and they had just come out so there were no used ones.
