Default Wrapping new guides on rod

Need some help. I've been building my own rod's and re-wrapping rod's for quite a few years. My problem is, how to remove the old expoxy or whatever coating from the rod after the guide and thread has been removed. At present I scrape and light sand it down but I usually mar the finish in the process. Any ideas ?? Thank's in advance....Pete

I'm not a builder, so I can't help you. You should be able to get an answer here, though:

Of course, if you've been building awhile, you're probably already familiar with it.

I would tape the edges and lightly sand. The new wrap will cover any buffing marks if you don't go beyond the tape off area.
