    Smile another new guy

All - I am new to your forum, but have been reading for some time as it is a great source of info. So to not be an just a consumer, would like to join the discussion and give info when I can.

Back ground: in the army, stationed at leavenworth, just returned from overseas and Iraq (x2). Love to fish for everthing, particularly hybrids, blue cats, channels, and eyes. I am less experinced with crappie, but want to learn more. I have the gear ( boat- pontoon -24ft w/ trolling motor, lowrance DS) and just bought a grey line bait tank !!, cant wait to use it.

What I know and dont know -Have been here once before and fished Milford some and got bit by the hybrid bug in june 03, did well with some cats too. Did some fishing at Perry, but dont think I knew what I was doing - tried for crappie, but again I am new at that. I read Alot about Clinton and want to try my hand at that. I have some experince pulling boards for eyes, but used the technique to try for wipers with some, but not alot of success. I do understand live bait is the key

BOTTOMLINE : I plan on hunting wipers and cats and crappie or what ever is biting on clinton and Milford ( mostly) ... or Perry is that is where the action is - would like any general or specific advice on you may have to offer a new guy on fish, lakes, current intell or just advice.

Glad to be joining you. KLJ

WELCOME!! hybirdchaser!!! I fish Clinton a lot. Hybirds there are reaching 22in & 5lbs. Catching them now in the chanels 20ft and deeper. Crappie fishing is GREAT. There are PLENTY of brush-piles as well as submerged trees. Lots of standing timber too. You also might want to visit www.davescountry.com A lot of the local crappie fishers there. Good luck and see ya on the water!!! <*)}}}><

WOW - you gents are great ! Had reservations about joining, but what a warm welcome - thanks to all you !

KC SLABS - I will keep an eye out for your red and white caravelle and will do
Bigbearfireman - Thanks - I have heard that Clinton in a good cat lake and cant wait to try my hand at it. As far as the river - I am not experinced, but here it is good, just dont know if i can put my boat in here in leavenworth ramp as the water is pretty swift - but i am still researching - if you know of a good place to put in, and a good stretch of water, I am wide open to advice. I will have alot more questions as the weather warms - again thanks alot, glad to be here
Crappie Chatt- - Good intel ! I am looking at making trip to Clinton to try at hybrids the third weekend in March ( 21 /22 March) If they are biting now, my assumption is it will only get better ? thoughts ? Thanks for intel on the local site - would have taken me years to discover that ! -

thanks again and hope to see you on the water at clinton

Well I can't top that but I might as well intro myself aslo. Since hunting season is almost over it time for the the ice to get off of the lakes. As you can see I am a Springhill guy. Moved here from Hutch about 5 years ago so I am just now really getting to know the lakes up here. I try and get out at least 3 or 4 imes a week so I will see if I can provide any good info.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D

Hybridchaser I also thank you for your service and welcome you to the crappie forum. I fish for crappie in the spring, fall and winter and in the summer I like to fish for channel around the KDWP fish feeders using my ten foot crappie pole. For a small lake close to you check this site for the Leavenworth State Fishing Lake http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/fis...e_fishing_lake.

My nephew just finished up in December after a year at the Command College and is currently in Afghanistan. With his busy schedule at Leavenworth and his three kids (4, 3 & 10 months) I was only able to get him out on the water three times last year.

For your cat fishing interest you might check out the BOC at http://www.catfish1.com/forums at their Kansas site.

Anyhow I’m sure you’ll enjoy your current duty tour here much better than your last and hope you’ll get plenty of time on the water while here. Good luck and hope to see you on the water sometime. If you have any questions I’m sure you can get plenty of answers here.
