Default Is it against the law?

Throwing fish carcass in the river, lake, etc.? I know it applies to deer and other game, but what about fish? We saw a bunch of fish carcass the other day at the boat ramp. Somebody tossed the carcasses in the water by the floating dock by the ramp. Nasty mess.

Cool I Don't Think It Is Illegal Here

I don't know about there but at Ky. Dam Marina we have a fish cleaning station on the end of the dock. I have had the Game Warden stand & chat with us while we clean fish & toss scraps into the lake. But the gulls get them about as fast as they hit the water! :D

I know they will write you a ticket for gutting shad and throwing the carcass in the water. They hammer people at the BigSandy spillway for this every year.Think its called wanton waste.

When I was at Dale Hollow a couple years ago we stayed at StarPoint Resort. They have a cleaning station right on the dock where everyone was cleaning their fish and just pitching the remains in the lake. Seemed to me like it should be illegal, but it seemed business as usual. I'm not sure what the law is here in Ohio as far as that goes though. Maybe I should know that, but I don't clean any fish at the lake anyway, so I guess that's why I haven't paid attention to that rule. It should be though.

The turtles need to eat too.

Bucksaw at Truman lake has a big fish cleaning station over a section of the marina- a lot of big catfish are butchered there- all they ask is that you pop the air bladders so they don't float around the marina. I wouldn't want to scuba dive under the marina/cleaning station- the catfish and turtles might be big enough to eat a man! Nature is the original recycler- things took care of them self long before man invented plastic garbage bags, garbage trucks and landfills.

No fish entrails or carcass may be disposed of into the waters of Illinois after cleaning.

We always return our offal back to the water, except for the times when the marina owner wants it for fertilizer for his garden. One of the things I love about fishing is nothing can go to waste. Even if catfish, bream, trutles, etc. don't eat the offal it will decompose and add natural nutrients back to the water. It's a shame some places put restrictions on natural processes that are genuinely beneficial to the environment. Agreed however, if it is making a mess and stinking the place up it should be carried out to deep water and disposed of. We've had some otters here lately enjoying the easy harvest. They've made a mess so we are using alternative methods until they move on.

Why would it be bad to throw the remains back into the water?
