    Default Flyfishing for crappie

I'm new to the forum and wanted to know if anybody Flyfishes for crappie. Would love some tips or good lakes in midwest Missouri, prefer smaller ones.

    Thanks,
    Randy

    Welcome from SC!
I don't use the fly rod, but I tie quite a few flies for them and use them under a float, usually 8-12 inches above a jig. I may try to take a fly rod after them this spring though. If you're interested in some flies gimme a shout and I'll be glad to help you out. I tie plenty of Clouser minnows and crappie candy flies and can do lots of others.

I only fly fish for all panfish, ie crappie, and find since I have been fly fishing for panfish I catch more fish. Have you ever fly fished? I am not familar with MO. lakes. I visit ARK. yearly in Feb/Mar. and fish small lakes using a cataraft.

I have been crappie fishing for about 15 years, tying jigs for 7, flies for about 3, and been fly fishing for about 5. Mostly for trout.

One of the guys at FAOL (www.flyanglersonline.com) fly fishes for crappie a lot. His name is Rick Zieger. He writes a weekly panfish article there. If you go to the main board and click on "FEATURES" and then "Panfish", you'll find them. He has listed his favorite crappie flies in the archives.

Not sure how many members, but the Missouri state board here at crappie.com has over 2,600 threads. Somebody's doing a lot of posting!
