Flash last for me.
When you all utilize flash materials like Krystal Flash/Flashabou/Flashabou Accent, do you tie it before you tie the material it compliments, like marabou? What I've been doing is tying the flash first, then surrounding it with the other tailing material. I was just wondering what you all do. It appears in some pics like people tie in the flash after they have tied the primary tailing material. It probably does not even matter to the fish. What do you all think?
"Mister, I love the way you wear that hat."
"You don't know nothin'."
Flash last for me.
If it's a chenille body jig I'll tie in the tail, usually marabou, then tie in the flash on top of that and spread it out a little around the hook, then tie the rest of the jig as normal.
It's really a matter of where do you want it? Every jig and fly has a pattern to be followed. Might think about the position you want it in first. Once you wrench down on it with thread, it isn't gonna go anywhere the rest of the material won't go.do you tie it before you tie the material it compliments

Flash for me is the highlight and the last thing. Well the last thing before the chenille.
Yeah, it depends. As an example, here's a video of Bob Clouser attaching krystal flash to his deep minnow:Originally Posted by backtocrappie

Funny you brought up ole Bob. I saw him on TV about a year ago, the interviewer asked him what had he done with all the money he made from the Clouser Minnow? Bob just chuckled and replied "what money"?

Flies are a different animal from jigs and flash can go most anywhere the recipe calls for. On jigs though If you put it on the outside it will flash much better. Like adding one silver piece of tinsel down each side. If it's inside the feathers it will not show up much.
The Clouser on the other hand is a very sparse material fly so the flash will show through pretty easy.
On a jig I don't think that personally I would ever out in inside. Just my opinion though.
alright, Skip, time to disagree with you:p
I think it is a matter completely of preference. I personally can't stand flash on anything, I have never caught fish with flash. Perhaps its due to how I fish and these high pressure waters I fish. Knowing this, for myself, I'd tie in as little as possible keeping it to the core of of my tail material to reveal itself during jerks and twitches:p Thats not saying I don't use it, I do but it's limited.

Well, I hope he makes a little off his books! They're very nice and informative. Bob seems like a great guy.Originally Posted by backtocrappie
