If you run your hand over the top cap is it rough or smooth? If it is smooth use this Protec Nu Paint Moisturizer if it is rough you may need to wet sand.

600 grit may be a little much depending on how far gone it is. I would start at 1000 and work my way up then polish and wax. Check out BassBoatCentral they have a restoration forum with alot of good info.

3m makes some restorer wax, cleaner products. You can find these at wally world or larger outdoor retailers. A friend told me about it and says he has had some bad boats and it helped. He's always dealing in older boats "there as good as new ones" he says except 10 times cheaper. I used it and it helped the finish on mine. I think the one I used had green on the label.

Do you spray on the clearcoat or do you paint it on?

What type of sprayer? I don't have one so I would have to borrow one, how much is the clearcoat? Is there a certain kind?
