Experienced Dock Shooters? Please help...

I need a recommendation on the best spinning rod to buy for shooting docks. I'm pretty good at skipping jigs into tight spots, but my G loomis is too stiff to shoot the docks and I think it would be more effective than skipping.

I shoot docks and pontoons most of the time when I am guiding or fishing my local two lakes. I have tried several, but the 5.5ft. Sharp Shooter is the best I have used. It is specifically designed for this and is awesome!

I have been using a light action 5' ST. Croix Premier with a fast tip.
This will sling a 1/32 on 6lb line.

the "best" rod for shooting docks, depends on whom you ask :p

I've used 5ft to 8ft rods .... and settled on a 5.5ft length for most of my dock shooting. It really all boils down to what length, action, brand, or modulus rating that feels best to you. Same goes for line type, pound test, and jig weight & plastic body style :D

What Loomis are you using, that you think is too stiff ? I've used a Browning M/H action 6ft'r and a Bionic Blade IM8 7ft'r ... and they've done fine. You can shoot docks with most any action/length spinning outfit ... it just comes down to how the outfit feels to you. You will get used to how quick your release has to be (depending on rod action & length) with a little practice.

As previously stated, there is no best shooting rod. Once you learn the technique you can use any good rod so it becomes personal preference. I like the Wally Marshall signature series 5'-6" model. It's a light action with a good backbone. You don't want a stiff rod but also not a wimpy "buggy whip" either.

Once you get the right setup the jig will just flow off the rod rather than shoot like a bullet. It's hard to describe but easy to feel once you get the hang of it.
