Question Orange Beach Al in March...

Looks like me n the hillbilly bunch will be spending a few days on the
coast about the second week in March - anybody got the lowdown on
a good charter boat, or whats biting that time of year?
Would rather go out on a small boat, one of those that only carries out 4-6
folks at a time - went out on a big one once with 30+ folks, and it wasn't
a very good time. They didn't care if you caught anything or not.

I'd really like to take the kids out, like I got to go when I was about their
age. Don't care if it's even edible fish, just something that'll pull, and a lot
of 'em. And can be caught on fairly light tackle.

We went out on a bottomfishing trip when I was about 8, and I just couldn't
really handle the heavy rigs with electric reels and huge sinkers...
the skipper managed to get us on a school of what he called
"peanut" dauphin, broke out the spinning gear, and then I had a great
time. But that was a bunch of years ago, and in Florida. We're pretty
much locked in on Orange Beach, 'cause the wife has already got us
a place to stay - pretty inconsiderate of her not to consult about the
    fishing first, huh? Thanks, Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
I have taken by 17 ft fiberglass crappie boat 115hp to Orange Beach for the last 3 years. You can explore Perdido Bay and The Big Lagoon. We have a ball! (Wife and 11yr old Son). Fish boat docks around Ono Island with shrimp for specked trout. Big Lagoon has speckled trout on weed beds. March may be different, we go in July. We just make sure to wash down boat, motor and trailior after every use. Think about it. Let me know if you want more info. I have water charts of the area. I would be glad to send to use to use.

One year we went out on bottom fishin trip but I don't think that capt is in business anymore. 2006 we hired a "bay guide" to shark fish in the bays. My son caught several small sharks and had a ball! I will try to find some pics. There is a big charter boat business in Orange Beach but I will have to look up the name later.

Call Zeke's Marina, Orange Beach Marina, or San Roc Cay Marina, and they can fix you up with any kind of charter you want.

Zekes Charters, I would say is the best in Orange Beach. I have been out the last 2 years and we have caught a ton on red snapper and an assortment of other fish, but we always go in july.I am sure the fishing will be good in the spring also. They have several different trips from 6 hour up to 12 hour trips.

Orange beach is a good area. You can pull your boat and fish moblie bay. M e and the wife went in oct, and having your own boat with you is great. Night fishing, bays, peirs, Talked to some locals, your fishing rods will work. They used a berkley grub shrimp. We caught a few reds, wifes was a keeper, and she had a zebco 202.

Tacky Jacks II i think, out on the Fort Morgan road. Ask for Jackie Lee. He's a whole lot cheaper than Zekes. I was VERY disappointed with Zekes. We went on a 12 hr goat rodeo in circles. I could see gps and called them out on it. They didnt care to much for my input.

You go to San Roc you better be ready to spend some $$$. The Sea Hunter (www.orangebeachfishing.com) is the best boat out of Orange Boat hands down. Expensive but the boat itself is worth the trip. Ricky McDuffy is the man. Another option is www.banditcharters.com out of Perdido. I think you can get on Capt Al's boat MUCH CHEAPER than you can the Sea Hunter. I also like Capt Butch Tucker out of Orange beach. He has one of the best reputations around but he stays booked about 99% of the time as he only runs certain times. In March, the Red Snapper will be closed but that really didn't matter as the limit has now been SLASHED to 2 fish per angler with 0 for Capt and crew.
